Dr Morpheus rides again

Dr Morpheus, a musical project of Owen Scott, III, has moved to Round Two of the Land Shark Lager 2009 Battle of the Bands. We entered Murder USA, a highly satirical version of Surfin' USA, itself copied by the Beach Boys from Chuck Berry's classic Sweet Little Sixteen. Owen wrote the song for his unpublished novel, Double-take: A post 60's Adventure, a psychedelic mystery story set in Athens, GA. Competing in the Nashville bracket, one of three regional online voting competitions, Dr. Morpheus finished 4th out of about 125 bands whose submissions were selected for Round One. In Round Two, judges employed by the sponsors, Land Shark Lager, SonicBids, and Rhapsody, will pick 4 bands out of the top 20 in votes received to perform in a live concert in Nashville on Sept 24. Two other similar concerts will be held in the other two regional brackets, Chicago and Austin, TX. Highlights of each of the 12 bands' set will be posted on the Land Shark Rocks contest page for a final round of online voting to determine a Grand Prize winner.
